A Week to Give Thanks.
Everyone celebrates Thanksgiving in their own special ways. Some years we travel to his sister’s house, or just have Mom come down and spend a nice quiet day at home. This year, things were a bit different. Although we have hosted holidays before, and we usually have everyone over for Easter, it was the first year we hosted Thanksgiving.
A little about what Thanksgiving means to me. I grew up in a football town, steeped in tradition and a rivalry that’s over 100 years old. The entire week is spent building up to THE game. The biggest game of the year. It doesn’t matter how far into the district playoffs and state championship the school goes if the Thanksgiving Day rivalry game is lost. Obviously, it’s an important holiday to me. It’s also a day filled with all of my favorite foods and time spent with family.
Hosting Turkey Day is a big deal, right? I was up for the challenge. I had my lists made, my game plan set and my cooking schedule organized. Breezed through the grocery store early the Sunday morning before, and BAM. Went to put the groceries in the refrigerator, only to find it wasn’t working properly.
Can you say face palm? 🤦♀️
After cleaning under the fridge, behind the fridge and vacuuming the air intake we had a feeling it wasn’t circulating correctly. Tried to contact the manufacturer to schedule service. They don’t service our area. So, we had to wait until the next morning to call a local company, because around here, a lot of places aren’t open Sundays. Kyle was finally able to call first thing Monday morning, and they said they would be there Wednesday.
The repairman was here for a total of 15 minutes. All the stress and aggravation we went through for it to be fixed in 15 minutes.
Needless to say, all of my grand plans were out the window. Making sure everything was prepped, cooked and ready was a bit stressful, but we were grateful for a working fridge. I was also grateful that I didn’t give anyone food poisoning.
Among my grand plans for cooking Thanksgiving, I also had decided that I would work on photographing more of our available animals and plants, updating inventory sheets and working on the website. If you have seen us at shows lately, you’ll know we have a lot more than just the few items listed in our shop. Clearly, that hasn’t happened yet. There’s always this week. Stay tuned for updates to the site, and hopefully another blog post or two.
And now that we’re past Thanksgiving, we’re officially booking our 2020 shows, selecting our breeders and breeder pairs for next year. Whew. What a week.
